Type Locality and Naming

SW Algeria. Its Type Locality is at Gara Azel Matti, while the Type Section ia at Adrar Morat (Wendt et al., 2006).

Lithology and Thickness

The formation is about 2-45m thick, and consists of well-bedded limestone with shale intercalations, mud buildups, with dark, partly bituminous mudstones and wackestones which contain a great variety of skeletal remains (Wendt et al., 2006).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Argiles de l’Adrar Morrat Fm.

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Argiles de Mehden Yahya Fm.

Goniatites, orthoconic nautiloids, gastropods, pelecypods, brachiopods, bryozoans, styliolinids, trilobites, crinoids, and solitary rugose corals.

Depositional setting
